My little girl Lexi was turning 3 in January this year and although I still loved her room, I felt she had outgrown the space and with the warmer months approaching I wanted to give it a refresh and add a bit more colour into the space. As a graphic designer with my own business, when designing my print range, I usually have her in mind, so I started with the ‘You Make Me Happy When Skies are Grey Print’ and began my hunt for the perfect things to match. There is so much inspiration on Instagram my good friend and client Milka Interiors is always sharing amazing spaces that she has created, so I didn’t have to look far, she kindly gave Lexi the cloud coat hangers from Down to the Woods for Christmas and showed me how hanging prints from them can look great. I got Vivid Wall Decals to create some custom raindrops in yellow, teal and pink to stick on the wall below them and also the cloud shelf that my husband whipped up for me a couple of years ago. I found the fantastic plywood sun from a great Australian designer Beneath the Sun and the custom name flag from Zilvi another fantastic local creative. I discovered the tutti fruity wall decals from Jimmy Cricket on instagram and knew they would be the perfect match for my fruit face prints, two that I feature in Lexi’s room Lemonade Lemon Face and Pippy Watermelon Face. Another instagram find was the felt watermelon bunting from Captain and Co Tasmania and also the beautiful little cloud mirrors from Arlo and Co. I love how draping the felt ball bunting from Stef Collections over a framed print can work so well to add another depth to the room. When it came to her doona cover, my mum had made Lexi’s quilt cover originally so I wanted to get her involved again, I tossed a lot of ideas around, but decided to design some fabric and get it printed on Spoonflower so that my mum could once again make it. My mum had purchased the gorgeous cushion ‘You are the bees knees’ from Cushionopoly for Christmas so I wanted to tie a bee in along with the clouds that are quite a prominent feature in the room and also some fruit, I was thrilled with how it turned out and the yellow is just so bright and cheery. As a small business owner I love being able to support other small businesses many which are mum’s like myself working from home so that they can stay home with their kids and watch them grow. I think the overall result of Lexi’s room is very fresh, colourful and welcoming.
